Huvadhoo Atoll is the second largest Atoll in Maldives located on the chief sea path nearby southern India. During the long period of time it served as a trading point or a stop-by place for mariners. Administratively Huvadhoo is divided into two regions: Northern Huvadhoo Atoll and Southern Huvadhoo Atoll. There are not so many places for sightseeing. The most popular are Buddhist remains, scattered around both of the regions. Diving around Huvadhoo Atoll is characterized by exploring the abundance of dramatic walls, outcrops, tunnels and channels. The peculiarity of the most of local dive sites is inconspicuous caves and caverns, which hide in the variety of drop-offs. Untouched rocky formations shelter many tiny underwater species, which are a godsend for macro photographers. Diving in the area is a complete pleasure, as depth range is from 7m/22ft till 30m/98ft. There are dive sites suitable for divers of all levels. Most of them are accessible by boat. The best period for diving in Huvadhoo Atoll is from January to May, as the rainy season runs from May to November. Average air temperatures are of 28-30C/82-86F and average water temperatures are of 26-29C/79-84F. Visibility is rather good – up to 20m/65ft. Currents are moderate, but in some places may reach up to 2 knots. What to see Local waters are teeming with marine life.
