When to go
Generally, the high season for diving in the Galapagos is from June to November, which is the "dry season" or "cool season." During this time, the water temperature is cooler, ranging from 18°C to 24°C (64°F to 75°F). The Humboldt Current brings nutrient-rich waters, attracting a wide variety of marine life, including sharks, whales, and schools of fish. This is also an ideal time for encounters with hammerhead sharks and other pelagic species.
On the other hand, the low season for diving is from December to May, known as the "warm season" or "wet season." During these months, the water temperature rises to around 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F). Although visibility may be reduced due to plankton blooms, this season offers excellent opportunities to encounter marine iguanas, sea lions, and playful sea turtles. You might also witness the courtship displays of various species during this time.
