Grand Discovery is a very well-maintained liveaboard with an excellent crew and service of a consistently high standard. The food, hospitality, and overall operation on board are all impressive.\r\nThe boat accommodates up to 36 guests, which is a large number of divers. That can work well with the right setup, but unfortunately, this is where the experience falls short.\r\n\r\nThere are only four dive guides, resulting in groups of 8\u201310 divers per guide. This makes the dives feel unnecessarily crowded and chaotic, and it also leads to long waiting times between the dive briefing and actually entering the water.\r\nMost dives require a negative entry because of the potential presence of sharks. This means divers need to be comfortable descending quickly and confidently. Surprisingly, this was never communicated during the booking process, even though it is an important consideration and may be challenging for less experienced divers.\r\nI also believe the operator should have stricter minimum experience requirements. Larger groups combined with relatively inexperienced divers make for a less enjoyable and, at times, more challenging diving experience for everyone.\r\n\r\nFinally, a note on the marine life: although May and June are widely advertised as the peak hammerhead season, that certainly doesn't guarantee sightings. Diving is always unpredictable, and no operator can control wildlife. That said, seeing only two sharks and very few fish across 18 dives in June was well below what I had reasonably expected based on the destination's reputation.\r\nOverall, Grand Discovery offers outstanding service and a comfortable liveaboard experience, but the underwater operation would benefit from smaller dive groups, more dive guides, better communication about the diving conditions, and stricter experience requirements for guests.<\/div>\n
